Demo
A demonstration showcasing a feature. The centerpiece of AI announcements, and also the thing that gets checked against "demo vs. real-world use."

A demo is a demonstration of a product or feature (short for "demonstration"). In the AI industry, it's the centerpiece of announcements and the core of marketing — unveiling a new model basically means releasing a demo video.
That's why "demo verification" has become part of AI journalism's job. Is it an edited video or a live run? Is it the best take out of many attempts? Do ordinary users get the same results? The industry has seen several controversies where the gap between a flashy demo and actual use came to light.
In METAL LAB articles, when you see the caveat "based on the demo," read it as meaning this is a company-provided demonstration that hasn't been independently verified yet.
