Self-driving
Technology that lets a car drive itself. Shows up in news through level numbers and robotaxi stories.
In plain words
This is technology where a car perceives its surroundings and makes driving decisions on its own. Articles often mention "level" numbers indicating the degree of automation — Level 2 is assisted driving (hands stay on the wheel), Level 3 is conditional autonomy, and Level 4 and up means full autonomy within specific areas.
It's already a commercial reality. Waymo's robotaxis are running paid rides in several U.S. cities, and recurring news topics include the debate over Tesla FSD's approach (cameras-only vs. combining with lidar) and disputes over accident liability. From an AI perspective, it's a leading example of physical AI in action.
