Turing Test
A thought experiment for judging machine intelligence, proposed in 1950 — if you can't tell whether you're talking to a machine or a human, it passes.

In 1950, mathematician Alan Turing proposed this thought experiment. If a judge chats with someone and can't tell whether they're talking to a machine or a human, then maybe the machine can be said to "think."
For 75 years it stood as the symbolic benchmark for "machine intelligence," but the situation has flipped now that the latest language models have essentially passed it. These days, articles use it as the starting point for a new question: "It passed the Turing Test — but does that mean it's intelligent?"
