AI Governance
The management framework organizations use to ensure AI is used safely and responsibly — the in-house version of "regulation."

AI governance is the management framework an organization sets up to use AI safely and responsibly. If government AI regulation is "law coming from outside," governance is "principles built from within" — it decides where a company will use AI, who is accountable, and how it will be monitored.
Why is this needed? AI has started being used for major decisions like hiring, lending, and diagnosis, and when something goes wrong, you can't just say "the AI did it." Who checks for biased outcomes? Is it okay to feed customer data into AI? Who owns the copyright of content generated by AI? Governance is about preparing answers to these questions in advance.
As the EU's AI Act moves into full enforcement, companies are rushing to put governance frameworks in place. News about a company "establishing an AI ethics committee" or "releasing AI usage guidelines" reflects AI governance in practice.
