AI Regulation

The laws and systems built to set rules for AI. The EU leads, other countries follow, and it's the arena where the innovation-versus-safety debate plays out.

In plain words

AI Regulation means setting up legal rules for AI. The most advanced example in the world is the EU's AI Act, which sorts AI into risk tiers and imposes obligations accordingly. South Korea has enacted its own AI Basic Act and is now moving into implementation, while the US has no single federal law and instead relies on a patchwork of state laws and executive orders.

The core tension is always the same: balancing safety against innovation. "Regulation kills industry" clashes with "neglect causes accidents," and recurring topics include mandatory deepfake labeling, safety obligations for frontier models, and copyright. When reading a regulation story, the first thing to check is which country's rules are being discussed.
