Computer Use
An AI's ability to operate programs directly by looking at the screen and clicking and typing like a human would.
In plain words
It's the ability for AI to take hold of the mouse and keyboard. The AI captures the screen, finds where buttons are, clicks them, and types — operating the same programs humans use, without needing an API.
This is essential if agents are going to do "real work." Most software in the world has no dedicated connection point for AI, so in the end AI needs to be able to use the screen the way a person does. Anthropic first introduced this in late 2024, and it quickly became a feature every major lab pursues. It's still slow and error-prone, so there are also articles pointing out the gap between flashy demo videos and actual real-world use.
