An open-source job-search assistant that runs inside your AI coding CLI
career-ops is an open-source tool that turns AI coding CLIs like Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode into a job-search command center: it evaluates job postings against your resume and generates tailored application materials. Its creator used it to evaluate 740+ job listings, generate 100+ customized resumes, and land a Head of Applied AI role. A human always makes the final call on whether to apply -- the tool never submits applications on its own.
What it does
- Paste a job URL or description and it scores your fit against the posting, while separately flagging whether the listing looks like a fake or abandoned ('ghost') job
- The AI navigates company career pages itself using Playwright, a browser automation tool, and judges fit by reasoning about your resume versus the job description rather than matching keywords
- It generates a tailored PDF resume and cover letter per job, and drafts outreach messages after identifying the right recruiter or hiring manager to contact
- It comes pre-configured to scan 100+ companies across platforms like Greenhouse and Lever for new postings
- A terminal dashboard lets you browse, filter, and track all your applications in one place
Why it matters
It hands off the repetitive grind of screening hundreds of job postings and rewriting resumes to an AI agent, while deliberately keeping the actual 'apply' click in human hands. It's a notable example of stretching an AI coding CLI beyond writing code into automating personal workflows.
