Netflix has put an unusually large family at the center of its next Korean action comedy. Two Cops and Five Kids stars Cha Tae-hyun and Uhm Ji-won as married police veterans raising children named Bom, Yeo-reum, Ga-eul, Gyeo-ul and Sae-bom — spring, summer, autumn, winter and new spring.
Cha plays Dong-sik, a violent-crimes detective preparing for a promotion exam. His routine collapses when his wife Kyung-ah leaves on what appears to be a trip, forcing him to handle all five children alone. The family then becomes entangled in an operation targeting a criminal organization, turning domestic logistics into part of the action premise.
Uhm plays Kyung-ah, a former elite police officer who has spent ten years focused on child care. Her trip is actually connected to a covert assignment and a possible return to work. That makes the couple's conflict more balanced than a simple story about an absent parent: both careers and both forms of labor are active in the plot.
Kim Jong-hyun, whose films include Run Off and Superstar Mr. Gam, will direct. Netflix has announced the five young performers playing the siblings, but it has not set a release date. The production notice therefore confirms the ensemble and genre mixture without revealing how the action and family comedy will be divided.
The title's promise is scale at home rather than spectacle alone. Five distinct children give the film multiple moving parts before the crime operation even begins. If the finished film can keep the family readable during the action, Two Cops and Five Kids has a clear identity inside a crowded field of police comedies.
